As an elegant and contemporary compliment to the Antique Dutch Black Finish, I developed an approach of creating this refined Finish for frames based upon techniques used in Early American Cabinetmaking.

In this interpretation we’ll be applying a base of Mars Violet pigment with deep Lampblack tinted ruby shellac and rubbed to where the Mars Violet peeks thru. We’ll then oil gild the frame lip and Inner Edge with Genuine Silver leaf and lightly Tone it with a Raw Umber Wash.

An excellent addition to the Custom Picture Framer’s palette! ~
