How To Make Hard and Soft Gesso…for Water Gilding and Panels
We get right down to it during this 90 Minute Online Intensive for students who would like to learn this Old World method of making Hard and Soft Gesso for Traditional Water Gilding as well as for preparing a beautiful gesso surface for Panels for Egg Tempera Painting, and Iconography. (Also suitable for Oils and Acrylics and Oil Gilding!) An excellent and stable approach for Picture Frames, Panels, Furniture, and Architectural Elements where gesso is used. We focus solely on Making Gesso. (For students wanting to learn how to also apply and sand traditional gesso in preparation for gilding, check-out the three-part online class coming this December!)

How To Prepare Clay Bole For Water Gilding
Preparing Clay Bole properly is very important in how the final gilding appears. Too thick and unsightly brush marks will appear under the gold; over-polishing the Bole surface can result in poor adhesion between the bole and the gold. Learn of to make the 10% Gelatin Solution, hydrate the Clay, and combine them for an excellent burnish for your water gilding.

Flat Gilding For Paper: From Ancient Garlic Juice to Contemporary Instacoll and Miniatum
The juice of the garlic bulb is an ancient mordant used to apply gold leaf to Paper and Statuary. In this 90 Minute Online Tutorial students will learn to grind and squeeze the juice from a Garlic Bulb and apply it to paper and a stone Buddha Statue. We will also apply the Contemporary Mordants Instacoll, Miniatum, and Miniatum Ink to Paper. We then apply 22kt Gold Leaf to each of the these prepared grounds for comparison including breathing through a bamboo straw onto the garlic to adhere the gold! A Must for students interested in exploring the ancient and Sacred connections to Flat Gilding for Illumination and the Contemporary achievements in the art of Gold Leaf Gilding.
