*Materials: Students will just need to bring 1 Booklet 12k Gold Leaf (Loose Leaf) to class. Substitutions are fine such as a thin genuine silver of other low kt leaf but must be Loose Leaf. A Promo Code and Website Link for Gilded Planet will be provided upon Registration. Leaf can be purchased at Sepp Leaf on day of class).

All Other Materials are Included in Tuition.

*Gilding Tools: Studio Gilding Tools are available for Student’s Use during Class. (Optional Gilding Kits are Available for Purchase. A link and Promo Code will be provided upon Registration.)

Designed for the Photographer working in the alternative realm of Orotones and Printing on Vellum with Injet Printers, Gilding for Alternative Photography will will take you on a journey in learning to gild in genuine Gold and Silver Leaf to add a new dimension to you photographic work.

Focusing on the art Reverse Glass Gilding, students will learn this ancient art of glass gilding and introduced in use for Orotones by Seattle Photographer Edward Curtis (1868-1952). Although Curtis also also used Bananna Oil and metallic pigment, gilding was also used to bring an ethereal tone to the photo printed glass by gilding the reverse of the glass. Students will learn to:

• Clean the glass and prepare a cold-process gelatin solution

• Lay genuine 22kt Gold and Silver Leaf

• Achieve a balance between brilliancy in the leaf and a strong bond between the fold, silver, and glass

• View the Sepp Leaf Showroom to experience all the various shades of fold and silver leaf available drom around the world including other precious metals such as Palladium, and Platinum Leaf!

Recent explorations in the area of Ink Jet Printing and Gilding by those in alternative photography, creating extraordinary results in this translucent Medium. Students will discover:

The use of water-based Acrylic Emulsion as a Size for gilding paper

Discuss the challenges of a water-borne Medium and potential options

Techniques in handling Loose Gold Leaf with the Gilder’s Pad, Knife, and Tip

Will also explore Gilding Acetate where there verse of Photographic Negatives can be Gilded as well as Acetate Inserts that can be placed behind negatives without the need to gild the actual Negative itself.
