This Summer brings a special In-Person 1-Day Introduction to the world of Gold Leaf Restoration of Picture Frames.

There are two central Methods of Gilding, Traditional Water Gilding and Mordant Gilding, and a wide variety of techniques that have been used over the centuries.

This 1-Day Introductory Class will put you on the right path in a supportive environment while learning what you need to know before attempting to restore a gilded frame.

Students will take part in hands-on demonstrations and discussions of the key principles of restoring a gilded surface including the methods of gilding, ornament repair, and toning as an Overview of what is required to properly restore gilding.

Highlights of what Students will learn during this Class:

  • How to Create a non-toxic Silicone Mould

  • How to Cast with Hydrocal for Ornament replacement

  • Steaming and applying pre-cast Compo Ornaments

  • Preparing Gesso Putty for Filling Holes and Ornament Repairs

  • Applying 22k Gold Leaf to a Prepared Surface as used in In-Gilding

Join us in this special Small Size class for gilding restoration limited to 3 Students, an exciting discovery in the captivating field of gold leaf restoration near the quaint seaside Village of Coupeville on beautiful Whidbey Island a ferry ride away from Seattle.
